Everything you post communicates who you are! What do you want people to think when they see the CU’s Instagram? Do you want them to think we’re outdated? Out of touch with our fellow students? (Obviously not!)
Or do you want them to see that you are a group of students who love Jesus, are working to see His name known on your campus, who welcome everybody, and want to glorify God in everything - even your Instagram?
Look at how Southampton have done this on their Instagram:
“We’re excited to see you!” “You belong here!” The brightly coloured, well-made design looks good and is clearly communicating the welcome that we all want our CUs to have.
The most attractive profiles are ones that have a clear theme. Think about the various elements: What colours are you using? What fonts? What connects all your content? It doesn’t have to have lots of flashy detail; a consistent colour theme and matching fonts will do the trick!
You want students to be able to see one of your posts on their homepage and instantly recognise that it is from your CU.
All of Exeter CU’s posts have a similar style, the same fonts are used throughout and notice how the colours on their committee profiles match with their story highlights as well.
Top tip: If you don’t already have a publicity officer, why not ask around your CU to see if there is someone who is good at graphics — whether it’s on Canva or they use Procreate on an iPad? If you’re a smaller CU it means you can spread out the jobs that need doing. If you’re a larger CU it’s a great chance for fringe CU members to get involved.
