Do you love student ministry, seeing hundreds of students passionate about God and wanting to share Jesus with their campus? Are you someone who loves to serve others practically?
We need passionate and willing volunteers for our major training conference, Forum. You will have the opportunity to help this huge event run. You will be in all the action, stewarding venues or helping amazing chefs to produce quality food. All of these elements help our event to be the best it can be.
There are a variety of ways that you can serve as a volunteer:
More information about the different roles and what they involve is below. We will need some volunteers to arrive in the days leading up to the event, and most will need to stay until 5pm on the day the event finishes to help with packing and cleaning.
All your food will be provided free of charge, as well as everything you need to do your job including induction for your specific role and training where needed.
You'll have exclusive access to the Volunteers Village located away from the main campsite which features ample space to set up either your own tent or one provided by us as well as toilets and showers (so you can avoid queuing with the students!). There's also the Village Hall - a space to relax, grab a free hot drink and snacks, charge your phone, get warm, and get yourself ready for the day with mirrors and clothes rails. And enjoy the Village Green where you can play a variety of outdoor games or enjoy your lunch on a picnic bench.
Timings vary depending on your role, but you will have down time each day. We'll have a daily briefing and devotional each morning to get you ready for the day and chat about any specific details. Check out the descriptions below for more information on arrival times for the different roles.
If you have any questions or concerns about any of the above please do get in touch. We don't want the practicalities to get in the way of you joining us so do get in touch by using the below link and sending us an email.
Here’s what previous Forum Volunteers have said:
‘Through volunteering, I have been equipped to come back and serve my CU, my church and everyone else in so many ways.’
‘Volunteering at Forum was a great experience, challenging and fun at the same time. It's a worthwhile thing to do and the team dynamic is great.'
Would you like experience managing a venue at Forum? You will oversee a group of stewards, manage the running order of a venue and also be responsible for recording numbers of delegates. This will be great experience for someone who wants to go into event coordination or project management. You will report to the volunteer manager, and feedback any questions or queries from the stewards in your venue. You will be required on site from 1 September.
We could not make Forum happen without stewards! Part of a large team, you will help manage our venues, including the main meetings, teaching tracks, and After Hours events. You will help set up facilities for meetings and provide day-time site security through patrols. You will also assist in keeping the site clean. If you like problem solving, and love working in a team, this is the role for you! You will be required on site from 1 September.
The tech team has a pivotal role at forum, to ensure that all of our attendees can hear and see what they need to, aiding the teaching and ministry going on in each of our venues. Our venues range from the big 1000 seater main arena to the after hours stage, camp site stages and many breakout rooms. There’s lots to get stuck in to! As part of your role, you’ll be helping set up our main arena space, getting to grips with the larger scale of the production, have a role as part of our main meetings and having your own smaller breakout venue to look after throughout the week. The key bit of being part of the tech team is that we want it to be an opportunity for you to learn alongside serving. We’d like to be able to offer you opportunities to try something that you’ve not done before during the week, hopefully increasing your knowledge and gaining experience. What we’re looking for in our tech volunteers is experience working with basic audio and AV in any setting, including church gatherings, happy to get stuck in with the set up and pack down of equipment in our venues, individuals with ProPresenter experience, running song lyrics for sung worship, as well as individuals with experience working at larger scale events, with an audio focus. You will be required on site from 31 August.
We need stewards at Forum who will act predominantly as drivers. With various guests arriving throughout the week we need drivers on standby to provide essential transport. You may be taking people to the nearest train station, making a few essential trips to the nearest Sainsbury’s, or helping the hospitality team who often transport heavy things across site. You will need a valid UK drivers licence, and be able to bring your car to Forum. We will of course reimburse all petrol costs used throughout the week. When not driving, you’ll be able to take part in other steward activities. You will be required on site from 1 September.
We require a small team of hospitality volunteers to help welcome guests and support the day-to-day needs of the Forum management team and volunteers. You will be preparing rooms for our guests, delivering meals to Forum staff and volunteers who are unable to leave their posts during meals times, as well as being on hand to welcome guests each day, and deal with any of their practical needs. We also require one hospitality volunteer who can bring their car to Forum and act as a driver to help deliver heavy things across a large site. You will be required on site from 2 September.
You’ll be working in small teams under the supervision of the professional catering staff in the kitchens. No special cooking skills will be required as everything will be explained by the professional catering team, but if you enjoy preparing food that’s a plus. If you work well taking instructions, and enjoy a scheduled routine this could be the role for you! You will be required on site from 2 September.
We’re looking for individuals to provide a visible presence on site through the night to look out for the safety of the delegates and the security of their belongings. Anyone with experience of security or night-time working is especially encouraged to apply. Volunteers should be willing to take on the aspects of patrolling that this will entail. An ability to stay awake at night will be helpful! Your services will be required on four consecutive nights from 11pm until 7am. You will be working in pairs, have your own sleeping quarters to ensure proper rest during the day, as well as access to food during your shift. You will be required on site from 2 September.
