This time of year sees new committees take over the leadership of CUs across the country. Each of these students, whether they're the CU president, responsible for mission or international outreach, or in charge of publicity, have a huge role to play in sharing the gospel with their universities. Alongside their studies, they are giving up their time to serve their CU and proclaim the gospel on campus.
This period of handover and the start of a new group of leaders provides an opportunity for each CU to re-centre on gospel foundations, to ground students in the mission and to dream big about how they can best glorify God and proclaim Christ.
So here are three ways you can pray for new leaders:
Taking on these new roles will present a whole range of challenges, from pastoral issues to thinking how best to run a mission week. So please pray for CU leaders to have wisdom in knowing how to lead well with humility, grace and love.
CUs are so well placed to share the good news of Jesus with people. But it takes courage to stand out. One of the ways CU leaders can lead well is by setting an example of being bold in sharing the gospel on campus, whether that's handing out flyers or inviting their friends to events. Please pray that they would be courageous in the way they share the gospel.
As these new committees come together, pray that they would be of one mind, unified around the gospel. As Jesus prayed in John 17:20-23:
‘My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one – I in them and you in me – so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.'
Committee members will come from different backgrounds, different cultures, different churches but have a real opportunity to show who Jesus is by being united. Pray that that would be obvious and would go beyond mutual toleration to deep love for one another.
