Christian Union students have an unparalleled opportunity to reach their friends with the gospel. As they study on campus and live alongside their peers, each day they unashamedly and boldly live and speak for Jesus.
The spring term presents one of the best opportunities for CUs to share the gospel – through events or ‘mission’ weeks. With large-scale evangelistic events, more intimate events, and one-to-one conversations, students boldly seek to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with their friends.
This year, Exeter Evangelical Christian Union welcomed 400 individual guests throughout their events week. The international track saw 82 guests from all over the world explore the good news.
Justin (name changed) is a Chinese student who has attended the CU’s international café for a while. Interested in faith and with some knowledge of Christianity from his Christian relatives back in China, he attended their events week, Found.
After one talk he reflected, ‘This sounds good, and I want to believe it, but I need evidence.’ Justin discussed the evidence for the resurrection with CU Staff Worker Jon and returned to an evening talk on that subject. Students from Saudi Arabia and India also heard the gospel for the first time.
Across Great Britain, students like Justin are encountering the good news. Join us in praying for them now.
Thank you for your prayers as the CUs continue to share the gospel on campus following events weeks. Over the past 20 years, CUs have increasingly used events week to reach students with the good news. Read some stories from over the years:
During an events week in 2003, a Christian French exchange student at the University of Reading brought a group of friends along to each evening event. One of them, also from France, trusted Christ that week, and another continued to seriously consider the claims of Christ at a follow up course.
In the spring term of 2004, one Chinese student reflected on the events week to her CU Staff Worker. ‘Before I became a Christian, the Bible was so hard to understand. Now it says so much.’ She had just finished reading her third Gospel. ‘Yesterday I read about the farmer and the seed. Today I have become seed in good soil. Now I must grow. Please help me grow.’ She then returned home to China for a few weeks to tell her communist family about Jesus.
During the 2014-15 academic year, Carli* came to faith in Southampton. CU member Allie had met up with her to go through Uncover John. This prompted Carli to attend the CU’s seeker course and her hall group, where she was welcomed with open arms and helped to read the Bible for the first time. She began to attend a local church, where she was spurred on to investigate Jesus, and towards the end of the year she put her faith in Jesus.
