In Colossians, Paul writes:⠀
⠀
'Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.' – Colossians 4:2–4⠀
⠀
It is God who opens the door. It is God who changes hearts. And it's God who gives us the strength and ability to proclaim the mystery of Christ clearly, as we should.⠀
⠀
So, take some time. Before your events begin, before you invite people, before your conversations to follow-up with a friend: pray, pray, pray. Remember that it's not our eloquence that changes hearts, it's God.⠀
When it comes to evangelism, it is essential that we are deeply rooted in Jesus.⠀
⠀
'Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.' – Colossians 3:15-17⠀
⠀
The temptation is to rely on our own good planning and knowledge of the Bible when it comes to evangelism, but if we aren't rooted in Jesus, it means nothing. If we want to share the gospel, we must be living it. We must be rooted in Jesus.⠀
⠀
Because when we let the peace of Christ rule, when we let the message of Christ dwell among us richly, when we do everything in the name of Christ, when we are deeply rooted in Jesus – our whole lives point to Him. And when our lives point to Jesus, our conversations, our talks, and our Q&As all point to Him.⠀
Sharing the gospel may seem like a huge task even for one week, never mind the whole year. But remember this: you are not alone.⠀
⠀
Jesus said to His disciples: 'you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.' –Acts 1:8⠀
⠀
God has given us the Spirit. God Himself is with us as we speak and act for Him – guiding us, strengthening us. And so when it's hard, we can take very real comfort from the fact that 'with man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.' – Mark 10:27⠀
⠀
So as you go and share the good news of Jesus – whether it's by chatting to a flat mate in the kitchen, or sharing your testimony at an event – draw strength from the fact that there is someone mighty and bold by your side.⠀
